This Privacy Notice explains what personal information Korte Live LLC (“Korte”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects when you use our website at kortelive.com (the “Site”), the Korte desktop application and its plugin for OBS Studio (the “Software”), and our related services, such as your account, purchases, support and emails (together, the “Services”); how we use it; and the choices and rights you have.

We are the controller of the personal information described here, except where we say that another company, such as our reseller Paddle, acts as an independent controller.

The short version

• Your video and sound stay on your computer. The Software analyzes your cameras and sound on your own PC. It is designed not to send your video, pictures or sound to us, and it doesn’t.

• Korte never identifies people. It does not recognize faces, build face templates or tell who someone is.

• We collect only what we need to sell you Korte, keep it working, answer you and improve it.

• No tracking cookies on our Site. The only cookie keeps you signed in to your account, and there are no advertising trackers.

• We don’t sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

1. What we collect

1.1 Information you give us

• Contact and support. When you email us or use a form on the Site, we receive your name, email address and whatever you choose to tell us.

• Account. When you create an account, or when we create it for you from the email address you used at checkout, we keep your email address, your name (if you give it), how you sign in (an emailed code or Google), and the computers you sign Korte in on. If you choose Sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and a Google account identifier with us; we never receive your Google password or access to anything else in your Google account. Sign-in codes are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form and deleted within a day.

• Purchases. When you buy a plan or pass, our reseller Paddle collects your payment and billing details (see Section 4). We receive from Paddle your name, email address, country, postal or ZIP code where needed for tax, the plan you bought, the price, the transaction and subscription status, and the last digits and type of your payment card. We never receive or store your full card number.

• Feedback. When you use the Feedback button in the Software, the note you write is sent to us, together with your computer’s hardware details described in Section 1.3.

• Mailing list. If you sign up for news or launch updates, your email address and the fact that you agreed to receive them.

1.2 Information collected automatically on the Site

• Usage analytics. We use Framer’s built-in analytics to understand how the Site is used: pages viewed, the website that referred you, your approximate country and region, your device type, browser and operating system, and clicks on buttons. This analytics service does not use cookies, and we use it only in aggregate.

• Server logs. Like any website, the services that host and protect our Site (Framer and Cloudflare) process your IP address and basic technical information about your browser to deliver pages, keep them secure and prevent abuse.

1.3 Information the Software sends

The Software works on your own computer. It connects to the internet only for the purposes below, and sends only what each one needs.

• Stability reports. After a show, the Software sends a short report about how your computer coped, so we can make Korte run well on more computers. A report contains: your processor and graphics card models, amount of memory, Windows, OBS and Korte versions; how long the show ran and how many cameras it used; frame rates, dropped or late frames, processor and graphics card load and temperature, memory use; and problems the Software logged. It also contains a random identifier created on your computer, so we can tell reports from the same computer apart; it is not linked to your name. Reports never contain video, pictures, sound, names of people, shows, cameras or files, your location, or anything you typed. If Korte's first-time setup fails, the report also includes the last lines of the setup log, with your Windows user name removed; if a show stops before its report is sent, the report is sent the next time Korte starts. A copy of each report is saved on your computer as a plain-text file you can read. You can turn stability reports off at any time in the Software (Settings, then Privacy).

• Updates. The Software checks our update service for a new version when it opens and every 6 hours, and downloads updates. These requests carry no information about you; like any web request, they reveal your IP address to our service providers for that moment, and we do not store it.

• Phone cameras. When you connect a phone as a camera, the phone opens a page on our phone-camera service, which passes short connection messages between your phone and your computer so they can find each other. The video itself goes directly from your phone to your computer over your local network. Each phone connection is protected by a random code. The service holds connection messages only until they are delivered, and keeps a small amount of technical information for each phone camera (when Korte last opened it, whether it is on air, and how much data passed through) so the connection can work. If a phone cannot reach your computer directly, its video may pass through our network provider's relay on the way to your computer. Video is never recorded or stored, and none of this information contains names, pictures or sound.

• License checks. When you sign Korte in on a computer, and then when it starts and every 6 hours while it is online, the Software checks that your plan is active and how many computers use it. It sends your account identifier, the random identifier and name of that computer, and the Software version, and, when you go live, a short signal so the Services can apply your plan's limit on computers streaming at once. Korte keeps working offline for up to 30 days between checks.

1.4 What we don’t collect

• We do not receive your camera video, pictures or sound.

• We do not use facial recognition or any biometric identification. The optional “look-to-switch” feature notices only the direction a person is looking, frame by frame in your computer’s memory; nothing is stored and no one is identified.

• We do not collect precise location.

• We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Our Site sets one cookie, and only when you sign in to your account: it keeps you signed in for up to 90 days and holds a random code, not personal details. It is strictly necessary for your account to work, so it does not need consent, and we never use it for analytics or advertising. Our Site does not use advertising or cross-site tracking technologies, and our analytics is cookieless. If we ever add cookies that are not strictly necessary (for example, for advertising or other analytics), we will update this Notice first and, where the law requires, ask for your consent through a cookie banner before setting them.

The Software stores its settings, logs and reports in files on your computer; these stay on your computer except as described in Section 1.3.

4. Who we share information with

We share personal information only as described here.

• Paddle (our reseller and Merchant of Record). Paddle.com sells Korte to you, processes your payment, calculates and collects taxes, sends receipts and handles payment questions and refunds. Paddle collects your payment and billing information directly and acts as an independent controller under its own privacy notice (paddle.com/legal/privacy).

• Service providers who process information for us, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing their services to us:

• Framer (Site hosting, Site analytics and Site forms);

• Cloudflare (domain and network services, our account and license service, update and download delivery, stability reports, phone-camera connections);

• Google (Google Workspace business email, which also sends sign-in codes and account emails; and Sign in with Google, if you choose it);

• an email service provider for newsletters, if you sign up for them.

• Legal and safety. When required by law, court order or other legal process, or when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Korte, our users or others.

• Business transfers. If Korte is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Notice.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. International transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. When we transfer personal information from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland to countries that are not considered to offer an adequate level of protection, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or on our providers’ certifications under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions.

6. How long we keep information

• Account information: while your account is open, and up to 90 days after you close it, unless we must keep it longer by law. Sign-in codes are deleted within 1 day, sign-in sessions end after 90 days, and records of computer changes on your account are kept for 90 days.

• Purchase records: for as long as tax and accounting laws require (generally up to 7 years). Records of your consent to automatic renewal are kept for at least 3 years, or 1 year after your subscription ends if that is longer.

• Support emails and feedback: up to 3 years after our last contact.

• Stability reports: deleted automatically 24 months after they are received.

• Site analytics: in aggregate form.

• Mailing list: until you unsubscribe.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections, access limited to the people who need it, and reputable service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

8. Your choices

• Stability reports: turn them off in the Software (Settings, then Privacy).

• Look-to-switch: turn it off in the Software (Settings, then Privacy).

• Marketing emails: unsubscribe using the link in any such email. We will still send service emails about your purchases and account.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy (access);

• correct inaccurate information;

• delete your information;

• receive your information in a portable format;

• object to or restrict certain processing, including processing based on our legitimate interests;

• withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent; and

• not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

You can download your data and delete your account yourself on the Account page, where you can also remove computers and sign out everywhere. To exercise these rights, email hello@kortelive.com. We will confirm your request using the email address linked to your information, and may ask for more details to verify your identity. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof of the agent’s authority and verify your identity directly. We respond within the time the law requires, generally 30 days (45 days in California, extendable as the law allows). If we decline your request, we will explain why and, where applicable, how you can appeal by replying to our decision.
